And do you want to know the absolute single most important one of those 5 things? Here it is…Make Sure The Foam is Poured in AMERICA.  Foreign foams can contain all kinds of harmful chemicals that make them toxic to sleep on.  They stink like Limburger Cheese, they sleep very hot, And they’re like sleeping on a ROCK!

Foreign manufacturers also use clay additives to give the foam a false density rating.

Of course, there is more to it than that, but just knowing that one thing will put you well on the way to getting a quality memory foam mattress.

The second thing you should know is the density of the foam.

5 lb. density foam is considered to be the ideal density for perfect support of the human body.  Less dense foams don’t give proper support and only last about half as long as the 5 lb foam.

The third thing you should know is the thickness of the top layer of memory foam.

It should be at least 3 “ thick.  The thickness of the mattress isn’t what makes it expensive it’s the thickness of the actual memory foam.  So, a 14” thick memory foam mattress that only has 2” of memory foam on top isn’t as good as a 10” memory foam mattress that has 3” of memory foam on top.

Again, it’s the memory foam layer that’s important, not the overall thickness of the mattress itself.

The fourth thing you want to look for is that the foam is temperature sensitive.

Memory foam, by definition, is temperature sensitive so (and please excuse my improper English) If it Ain’t Temperature Sensitive, It Ain’t Memory Foam.

And last but not least is that there should be some kind of low risk sleep test period of at least 30 days or longer.  You can’t judge how your body will react to any mattress by lying on it for 5 minutes in a mattress store.  You need to be able to test it out for at least 30 days or more.

After discovering those 5 things, I’ve even added more improvements to every mattress I make. Like my improved air flow system for instance.  I wont’ have that cheap egg crate foam in any mattress I make, I use solid sheets of foam that will last for years longer than egg crate foam.

The difference is that I use open celled, breathable foam in every layer of materials in my mattress manufacturing process.  This allows air to flow freely throughout your mattress giving you the best possible chance of sleeping cooler than other memory foam mattresses.
